Zhelia’s Exodus
Zhelia to Locust about what happened in Thay:
I was waiting for you to come back from delivering that package. I sensed something wrong. You know that feeling you get just before everything goes to the Abyss? So, I went to the window of our apartment and looked outside. I saw you. You were standing there slack jawed gawking at some pale woman. Then it struck me, that wasn’t a woman, at least not anymore. I quickly looked around and saw them, those damn red robes launching their fire at our house. As they exploded, time seemed to slow down for me. I saw the fire expanding in the house, but it was so slow. Without realizing, I was already calling upon my patron. You know. The entity I have my pact with. He heeded my call. There he stood. Right there in our foyer. He asked what I needed, and I told him I needed out of this gods forsaken house.
Apparently he was not without a grim sense of humor. I moved out of the house sure, but he had plane shifted me to the damned Shadowfell and was nowhere to be found. Repeated calls, and he didn’t answer, the slarning bastard. If you think Thay is crawling with things you don’t want to cross, well the Plane of Shadow’s version of Thay is much, much worse.
I wandered through that gloomy place for about an hour before I sat down and performed the rituals to get my pact items back. With them back in hand I was more equipped to handle the… things that wander there. I can’t tell you how long I walked, but I felt like forever. It is a never ending wasteland of gloom and things that want to kill you.
I had almost given up. I had faced several adversaries and won during the time I wandered. I was bleeding and starving. I had several wounds that would not close. I was dying. I struggled on. I saw a gray skinned woman with hair the color of blood in the distance and called out to her. She looked at me with her black eyes and walked towards me pulling her sabre. I vowed that I wouldn’t lie down and let this bitch have an easy kill. I conjured up the last reserves of arcane power I could and threw it her and still she came. We fought back and forth and I realized she was toying with me, which pissed me off even more. Then she struck me for real and everything went black.
I awoke some time later in this woman’s hut. She told me her name was Moyshanna, a Shadar-Kai. They are a lot like humans only they were born in the Plane of Shadow. She had told me that I had earned her respect for not quitting and fighting well. I stayed with her awhile, until I was well enough to travel again. She asked me where I was going and I jokingly told her that “I was planewalking and got lost now I’m looking for my way home.” When I told her where home was she smirked at me and told me she could help.
We must have traveled for months, across mountains, swamps, and wastelands. That place is like a corrupted copy of our world. I can’t image growing up there. We finally came to a portal, just outside of a place she called Magrathar’s Teeth, a wicked outer wall to a towering spire. Moyshanna had told me that a powerful wyrm dwelt there and he used this portal to travel to our plane to wreak havoc and that we must hurry. We navigated some caves and there it was, the way home. We stepped through and found ourselves in a tomb surrounded by creatures of fire; we fended them off and ran. We ran; shadow stepped, blinked; everything we could do to get free of the place and finally found ourselves in the upper reaches of the Underdark. Able to catch our breath, we were able to make our way to the surface without too much more trouble.
I later found out that we were in a kingdom called Damara and that we were lucky to get out of the woods were in alive. They are haunted by all accounts, by the souls of an elven nation killed long ago by the unspeakable shadow of Dun Tharos. Moyshanna, thinks that the dragon is this shadow that they spoke of. Once we were on the surface we traveled north and found ourselves here, in Helgabal.
I did what I do best. I set up shop and began conning dumb adventurers out of their spoils. It’s funny how a pretty face and an alluring smile can get things for so cheap. Hells, most of them don’t even care that I have demon blood in my veins. Human men are so easy. Moyshanna should be around somewhere. You will have to meet her. She’s quiet, but I think you can get her to open up. You have that way about you.
